Itinerary

Day 1 – Aswan Arrival & Embarkation

Arrive in sun-splashed Aswan, where palms ripple in the breeze and feluccas stitch white triangles across the water. Step aboard your Nile cruise ship—your floating boutique hotel for the next twelve nights—and settle into your cabin as the golden light eases over the river.

After the safety briefing and a relaxed orientation, savor a leisurely dinner on board while the lights of Aswan shimmer on the current. Later, drift to the lounge for soft music in the bar or stroll the sundeck to watch late-sailing boats slip by Elephantine Island.

Tonight is about easing into the rhythm of the river: unhurried, timeless, and full of promise for the discoveries ahead on your long cruise from Aswan to Cairo.

Overnight: Aswan

Meals: Dinner

Greet the day with breakfast on board before setting out to the engineering marvel of the High Dam, a symbol of modern Egypt harnessing the Nile’s power. Continue by boat to the island sanctuary of Philae, where elegant columns and reliefs whisper the stories of Isis and Osiris; the approach across the water is a highlight in itself.

After an international buffet lunch back on the ship, delve into the acclaimed Nubian Museum to trace the culture, crafts, and history that shaped this southern region. As evening gathers, meet the ship’s team at the Manager’s Cocktail Party, followed by a generous dinner buffet. Cap the night with a lively Nubian show—rhythms, colors, and dance that bring Aswan’s soul to life.

Overnight: Aswan

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

A leisurely morning drifts by with breakfast and views of riverbank villages as your long Nile cruise points north. After lunch, the ship moors at Kom Ombo, uniquely dedicated to Sobek the crocodile god and Horus the falcon.

Your Egyptologist illuminates the double symmetry of hypostyle halls and the ancient healing practices recorded on the walls; don’t miss the small crocodile mummy display nearby. Back on board, the crew conducts a friendly safety drill—seamanship you’ll appreciate—then it’s tea time on deck as the sun softens.

Sail onward toward Edfu. This evening, a sizzling BBQ dinner fills the open air with mouthwatering aromas, followed by music in the bar as the current carries you deeper into history.

Overnight: Edfu

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Rise early for a head start at Edfu, home to Egypt’s best-preserved Ptolemaic temple, where Horus stands sentinel. Your guide brings brilliantly carved scenes to life—sacred processions, celestial barques, and mythic battles.

Returning to the ship, settle in as you cruise through the photogenic bottleneck of the Esna Lock, a classic Nile moment where villages cluster close and children wave from the banks. Lunch is served on board as minarets and sugarcane fields slide past. By late afternoon you approach Luxor, once Thebes, capital of the New Kingdom.

Enjoy tea time and an unrushed evening buffet, or slip to the lounge for a nightcap. The stage is set for tomorrow’s deep dive into Luxor’s treasures.

Overnight: Luxor

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

This morning cross to the West Bank, where desert cliffs cradle the Valley of the Kings. Step into royal tombs painted with constellations, hymns, and passages to the afterlife—art that still glows after millennia.

Continue to the elegant terraced Temple of Hatshepsut, Egypt’s trailblazing female pharaoh, then glimpse the Colossi of Memnon standing guard over ancient fields.

After lunch aboard, explore the East Bank’s great temples: sprawling Karnak, with its forest of papyrus-topped columns and sacred lake, and atmospheric Luxor Temple, radiant at golden hour.

Back on board, an abundant dinner buffet awaits, and the evening crescendos with a belly dance performance—part celebration, part history—beneath the stars.

Overnight: Luxor

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Breakfast accompanies a gentle sail to Qena, where green fields flare against tawny desert. After lunch, drive to Dendera, dedicated to Hathor, goddess of music, joy, and love. The temple’s astronomical ceiling—restored to reveal vivid blues—charms with zodiac motifs and star maps, while the crypts and rooftop chapels hint at mysteries of ancient rites.

Return to the ship in Qena and cast off toward Naga Hammadi, passing bridges that frame the river like gateways to another era. It’s a sociable evening on deck with tea time followed by a flavorsome BBQ dinner. Music drifts from the bar as your Egypt river cruise settles into its luxurious rhythm of discovery and downtime.

Overnight: Naga Hammadi

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

At dawn, sail toward El Balyana and step ashore to Abydos, a pilgrimage center famed for the Temple of Seti I. Here, reliefs rank among the finest in Egypt—exquisitely incised, deeply colored, and hauntingly lifelike.

Your guide deciphers the Abydos King List and the Osiris mysteries woven through chapels and corridors. Back aboard, enjoy lunch as the ship glides toward Sohag. Afternoon tea sets a relaxed tone before a convivial Egyptian wine tasting introduces regional varieties and stories of viticulture along the Nile.

An oriental dinner buffet invites second helpings, then don your local galabeya for a light-hearted costume party—a breezy, joyful celebration of river culture.

Overnight: Sohag

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Before sunrise, the long cruise threads north from Sohag toward the storied landscapes near Tel el-Amarna, capital of Akhenaten’s bold religious revolution. After breakfast, watch the choreography of boats and barges as you pass Asyut’s lock, a living theatre of Nile navigation.

Lunch is served on board before a scenic pause opposite the Monastery of Prince Tawdrous; from the deck, your guide shares the site’s significance and the continuity of Egyptian faith along the riverbanks.

Later, join an interactive cookery lesson with the ship’s chefs—spices, techniques, and recipes you can take home. A relaxed BBQ dinner rounds off the day as desert stars pierce the velvet sky.

Overnight: Tel el-Amarna (moored)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Begin with an early breakfast, then explore the northern tombs of Amarna, where courtiers carved intimate scenes of daily life and the Aten’s sun-rays cradle the royal family. Continue to the Royal Tomb of Akhenaten, the Northern Palace, and the Small Temples of Aten to feel the short-lived brilliance of this revolutionary city.

Later, journey to Tuna el-Gebel and Ashmunein (Hermopolis), where Greco-Roman catacombs, boundary stelae, and temple ruins reveal layers of belief from Pharaonic to classical eras. Return to the ship for lunch as you sail to Minya.

Tea time slides into an Italian-style dinner, then enjoy a folkloric show that blends music, costume, and storytelling—Egypt’s living heritage in motion.

Overnight: Minya

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, drive through fertile farmlands to the sandstone cliffs of Beni Hassan. Enter rock-cut tombs famed for dynamic scenes—wrestling, hunting, weaving, and foreign delegations—that capture Middle Kingdom life with rare immediacy.

Notable visits include the tombs of Baqet III (BH15), Khety (BH17), Amenemhat (BH2), and Khnumhotep II (BH3). Return to the ship late morning and set sail for Beni Suef. A seafood buffet lunch celebrates the river’s bounty, and tea time on deck gives you front-row seats to village life: waterwheels, date palms, and children racing along the embankment.

As night falls, a BBQ dinner is followed by a friendly quiz—perfect for reliving favorite moments and testing your Egyptology.

Overnight: Beni Suef

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Sail the final scenic stretch into Cairo, where the skyline unfurls with minarets and modernity. After lunch, discover Coptic Cairo—a serene enclave layered with early Christian history. Step into the atmospheric Hanging Church, explore the treasures of the Coptic Museum, and visit the storied Ben Ezra Synagogue (often called the Jewish Synagogue) with its Geniza legacy.

Back aboard, an international buffet dinner is followed by takht—traditional oriental music that seems to echo the river’s own cadence. Tonight, toast the achievement: you’ve crossed Egypt by water from Aswan to Cairo, a true long cruise that few travelers experience.

Overnight: Cairo

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Fuel up at breakfast for a bucket-list day. Stand before the Pyramids of Giza—Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure—marveling at their geometry and endurance as desert light plays across ancient limestone.

Gaze at the enigmatic Sphinx, sentinel of the plateau, before returning to the ship for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Egyptian Museum in Cairo to encounter a world-class collection of Pharaonic art: gilded shrines, royal portraits, and everyday objects that animate the lives behind the monuments.

Back on board, savor a set-menu dinner and perhaps a final drink in the lounge as the city’s lights dance on the water—a fitting finale to your luxury Nile cruise experience.

Overnight: Cairo

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast as you take a last look at Cairo’s lively banks and the ever-flowing Nile. Use the morning to pack, exchange photos with new friends, and reflect on the route you’ve traced:

Aswan’s islands and Nubian heritage, Kom Ombo and Edfu’s soaring stone, Luxor’s royal secrets, Dendera’s painted heavens, Abydos’s masterpieces, the revolutionary spirit of Amarna, and Cairo’s layered faith and pharaonic splendor.

After an early lunch or light refreshment (as scheduled), it’s time to disembark, carrying home not just souvenirs but the cadence of the river—slow, generous, and unforgettable. Your long cruise from Aswan to Cairo concludes, but Egypt’s stories will continue to unfold whenever you remember the Nile.
